Kazakhstan's military overhauls troop meals with buffets and digital contracts

Kazakhstan's armed forces are updating how they serve meals to troops. The changes include more variety, better quality controls, and modern procurement methods. Over 40,000 servicemembers will benefit from the new system, which introduces buffet-style dining and digital contract management. The military's food service, run by 23 contractors, is shifting to a buffet system. Each day, troops will have multiple choices for soups and main courses. Traditional Kazakh dishes are also being added, with themed 'national cuisine days' planned regularly.

Feedback from servicemembers is shaping the menu, though existing ration standards remain unchanged. The Soldiers' Mothers Committee, *Analar Züregi*, is helping assess food quality and gather input from personnel. To improve standards, the military has selected 11 new suppliers through competitive bidding. Training programmes and live cooking demonstrations are now being held for military cooks. Contracts will last up to three years, with all procurement moving to a fully digital format.

The modernisation aims to give troops more meal options while ensuring higher quality. Digital contracts and competitive supplier selection will streamline operations. The new system is expected to enhance both efficiency and satisfaction among servicemembers.
