Kalpana Iyer's Viral Wedding Dance Revives Her 1980s Iconic Groove

Kalpana Iyer, a renowned dancer and actress from the 1980s and 1990s, has recently gone viral again. A video of her dancing at a wedding in Siliguri, India, brought back memories of her iconic song Rambha Ho Sambha Ho. Now based in Dubai, she remains a familiar name in Indian cinema and beyond.

The 70-year-old star has led a varied life—from acting in Tamil and Telugu films to hosting popular TV shows and later turning to spirituality. Her recent dance performance marked a nostalgic return to the dance that made her famous over four decades ago.

Iyer first rose to fame with Rambha Ho Sambha Ho from the 1981 film Armaan. The track was later reused in the hit movie Dhurandhar, keeping her legacy alive in Bollywood music. After her acting career, she shifted to television, hosting programmes like Kaun Banega Crorepati and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.

By 2005, she had founded Iyer Sadhanalaya, an ashram in Mumbai dedicated to yoga, meditation, and Vedic teachings. Even now, she continues to guide students in spiritual practices. Despite her busy schedule, she maintains a strict fitness routine, walking every morning and evening.

A lifelong vegetarian, Iyer follows a simple diet. Breakfast usually includes South Indian dishes like idlis, rava upma, or poha. Lunch consists of boiled rice, dal or sambar, a vegetable dish, and yogurt or buttermilk. For dinner, she prefers roti with sabzi, vegetable soup, or a light pasta salad. Her favourite dessert remains semiya payasam, a sweet vermicelli pudding.

The recent wedding performance in Siliguri was a surprise for guests. Dancing to Rambha Ho Sambha Ho after 45 years, she brought energy and nostalgia to the celebration. The video quickly spread on Facebook, reminding fans of her enduring charm.

Iyer's viral dance has reignited interest in her career, spanning films, television, and spirituality. She continues to inspire through her ashram while staying active on social media. The wedding performance shows that her passion for dance—and her connection with audiences—remains as strong as ever.
