A special evening of jazz and poetry will take place in Mainz later this month. The event, titled Ortheil Meets Sternal: Jazz and Poetry, aims to raise funds for palliative care. Organised by the Mainz Palliative Care Foundation, it brings together literature and music for a charitable cause. The literary and musical evening is scheduled for Thursday, November 27, at 7:00 PM. It will be held in the Red Hall of the Mainz University of Music. Author Hanns-Josef Ortheil will read from his works, while pianist Sebastian Sternal provides a jazz accompaniment.
Admission to the event is free, but attendees are encouraged to donate to the foundation. Over the past ten years, the organisation has raised more than one million euros. These funds have supported palliative care facilities, staff salaries, and training for doctors and nurses. The foundation’s mission focuses on improving medical, spiritual, and psychological care for the terminally ill. Past donations have helped renovate patient rooms and fund professional development. Susanne Conrad, a board member, noted that current systems are under strain. She stressed the need for society to do more in supporting those at the end of life.
The event offers an opportunity to enjoy poetry and jazz while contributing to a vital cause. All donations will go directly to the Mainz Palliative Care Foundation. The money raised will help maintain and expand services for terminally ill patients and their families.
