How Nothing Bundt Cakes Became America's Sweetest Success Story
Nothing Bundt Cakes has become one of America's fastest-growing bakery chains, with nearly 800 locations across 45 states. The brand, known for its cream cheese-frosted bundt cakes, has expanded rapidly—opening 120 new stores in 2024 alone. Its success is backed by strong sales, loyal customers, and ambitious growth plans.
The chain specialises in bundt cakes, offering four sizes and nine flavours, all topped with its signature frosting. Prices range from £6 to £40, with 97% of sales coming from cakes and just 3% from party supplies. Unlike competitors such as Crumbl or Insomnia Cookies, Nothing Bundt Cakes positions itself as a destination for celebrations and special occasions.
Each bakery brings in an average of £1.5 million in annual sales, with profit margins exceeding 20%. The company has maintained 28 straight years of positive same-store sales growth, and recent traffic increases have been particularly strong. Franchisees are equally committed, with a 100% renewal rate and only two closures in nearly three decades.
Owned by private-equity firm Roark Capital—which also holds brands like GoTo Foods and Inspire Brands—the chain has aggressive expansion plans. It aims to grow by 20% each year, eventually reaching over 3,000 US locations. Of the 560 new bakeries in development, 312 have already opened by the end of 2024. Current brand awareness stands at 25%, with a target to increase this to 30% within the next two years.
With nearly £1 billion in annual sales and a proven franchise model, Nothing Bundt Cakes continues to expand its footprint. The company's focus on celebrations, strong financial performance, and high franchisee retention set it apart in the competitive dessert market. Growth shows no signs of slowing, as hundreds more locations prepare to open in the coming years.
