Tracey Dunne turned a small business idea into a thriving business with Side Hustle Jams. What began in 2016 as a way to support her son has now grown into a full-time venture. Her artisan preserves, known for bold flavours and playful names, are now sold across Fresno and beyond.
Dunne’s passion for food started early, inspired by her uncle Jesse, who taught her to treat cooking as an art. She first sold her jams in Clovis before moving to Fresno’s Vineyard Farmers Market. Over time, demand grew, and she left her job with Fresno Unified School District to focus entirely on her small business.
Side Hustle Jams now offers over 700 varieties, from sweet fruit butters to fiery creations like Blackberry Jalapeno and Hella Hot Apricot. Dunne sources most of her fruit locally, avoiding artificial colours and instead using vegetable and flower juices for natural hues. Her products are available at the Vineyard Farmers Market, Remeadies Intoxicating Potions, Yosemite Wine Tails, and Ziveli Winery. To refine her craft, Dunne recently entered three marmalades into the Dalemain Marmalade Awards in England. The competition provides professional feedback, helping her improve her recipes. Her approach—confident yet fun—shines through in her whimsical flavour names and adventurous combinations. Jam itself has a long history, dating back to ancient times and enjoyed by figures like Joan of Arc and Napoleon. Dunne’s modern twist keeps the tradition alive while catering to today’s diverse tastes.
Side Hustle Jams has expanded far beyond its modest beginnings. Dunne’s preserves, made with local ingredients and creative flavours, now reach customers at multiple locations. The small business continues to grow, blending tradition with innovation in every jar.
