How a Kazakh family farm transformed into a modern agricultural powerhouse
Agro LAKE LLP, a family-run farm in northern Kazakhstan, has grown into a modern agricultural business under Andrei Galyuk's leadership. The operation spans 5,600 hectares, combining crop production with beef cattle and horse breeding. Its success reflects both investment in technology and a commitment to local employment.
The farm's roots trace back to Andrei's father, Vasily Galyuk, who began as a labourer before rising to direct a state farm. After decades in agriculture, he launched the family business, which Andrei later expanded. A graduate of the S. Sadvokasov Agrotechnical Institute, Andrei now oversees a team of around 40 workers.
Agro LAKE's infrastructure includes five CLAAS combines and modern grain storage: silos holding 5,000 tons, plus two seed facilities with another 2,000-ton capacity. Livestock workers earn between 250,000 tenge in winter and 350,000 in summer—competitive wages for rural Kazakhstan. The farm also allocates 500 hectares for pasture, where it initially raised 50 Hereford calves sourced from Svobodnoye LLP in Sandyktau District.
Looking ahead, Andrei Vasilyevich is exploring stall-fed housing for cattle. This change aims to tighten control over their diet and reduce dependence on grazing land. The farm also prioritises social responsibility, supporting local residents alongside production goals.
Agro LAKE LLP balances modern farming with community support. Its investments in machinery, storage, and livestock reflect a long-term strategy. The shift to stall-fed cattle, if implemented, would mark another step in the farm's evolution under the Galyuk family's stewardship.
