Houston's Cinco de Mayo kicks off with Astros vs. Dodgers and citywide fiestas
Houston is gearing up for a lively Cinco de Mayo celebration this week. The festivities kick off early with a high-profile baseball game between the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. Across the city, restaurants, museums, and venues have planned a mix of food, music, and cultural events to mark the occasion. The celebrations begin at Daikin Park on Monday evening, where the Astros will host the Dodgers. The match serves as an unofficial start to the city’s Cinco de Mayo events, drawing crowds ahead of the official holiday on Tuesday.
Popular restaurants are joining in with special offers and performances. The Original Ninfa’s will feature all-day mariachi music, tequila tastings, and discounted Mezcal Margaritas priced at $13. Nearby, Hugo’s will also host mariachi bands and tequila activations for guests.
For those seeking a more interactive experience, Lyric Market is hosting a street food party with regional Mexican dishes, specialty fruit margaritas, and competitive games. Meanwhile, Axelrad Midtown Fiesta will offer $5 margaritas, live DJs, and traditional Folklórico dancers throughout the evening.
Beyond food and drink, cultural and educational events are planned too. The Houston Children’s Museum and Mexic-Arte have organised activities centred on the historical significance of the Battle of Puebla. Elsewhere, Culinaria’s events include taco-eating contests and upscale Mahjong socials, adding variety to the festivities. Cinco de Mayo in Houston will feature everything from baseball and street food to live music and historical exhibits. With events spread across restaurants, markets, and cultural venues, the city offers plenty of ways to take part in the celebrations. The holiday officially takes place on Tuesday, but the festivities begin a day earlier with the Astros game.
