Hong Kong Café brings bold flavors to Vienna's Wipplingerstraße dining scene
Wipplingerstraße in Vienna is fast becoming a go-to destination for modern Asian dining. The latest arrival, Hong Kong Café, joins a growing list of eateries in the area. Owned by Yike Liu and Elisabeth Wu, the small but stylish spot offers a concise menu at affordable prices.
The duo behind Hong Kong Café has been shaping the street's culinary scene for years. Over a decade ago, they opened Iko, setting the trend for contemporary Asian food in the area. Since then, their portfolio has expanded to include Shouko Ramen Bar, Thailanna, Mae Aurel, and Nikkai—located in the old stock exchange building. Little Koya, their compact takeaway spot, also sits nearby on Wipplingerstraße.
Hong Kong Café itself keeps things simple. The menu features Roast & Rice dishes like Shao Ya (Hong Kong-style roast duck) and Ji Pai (deboned chicken leg), both hearty and well-prepared. Their Jiaozi dumplings are decent too, offering good value for money. Service runs smoothly, often with the owners themselves stepping in to ensure efficiency.
For now, no further openings from Liu and Wu are planned or announced. Hong Kong Café adds to their established presence on Wipplingerstraße, delivering a satisfying meal in a snug setting. With its fair prices and solid dishes, the café fits neatly into the street's reputation for quality Asian cuisine.
