Haus Scheppen's waterfront transformation begins ahead of IGA 2027

Plans to upgrade the area around Haus Scheppen have taken a major step forward. The local committee for environment, climate, and consumer protection approved a resolution to improve access, pathways, and parking. Work will begin in 2026, with the first phase focusing on three key projects ahead of the International Garden Exhibition 2027 (IGA 2027).

The initial phase will target the forecourt, the riverside path, and parking lot P1. The forecourt will be redesigned to include a new jetty, while the riverside path will undergo barrier-free renovations. Parking lot P1 will also be expanded to ensure full accessibility. These changes follow a detailed participation process involving residents, local groups, and stakeholders.

Construction is set to start in 2026, once design planning is finalised by the end of 2025. The total budget for these measures stands at around 2 million euros, with 340,000 euros earmarked specifically for planning costs. No historical or cultural elements along the Baldeneysee waterfront promenade have been flagged for preservation in the current plans.

Beyond the immediate upgrades, longer-term proposals include improving Hardenbergufer street, adding a boat gallery, and upgrading parking lot P2. Additional plans feature an adventure playground and new open spaces. The overall goal is to create a sustainable, safe, and barrier-free environment for future visitors and residents.

The approved measures will transform the Haus Scheppen area before IGA 2027. Work on the forecourt, riverside path, and parking lot P1 will begin in 2026, following the completion of design plans. The project aims to deliver a modern, accessible space that meets the needs of the community and visitors alike.
