Germany's Armed Forces restructure with new Bonn support hub by 2025

Bonn (ots) - On April 29, 2025, the new support area of the German Armed Forces in Bonn will go into service, following the full operational capability achieved on April 1. The establishment of the new support area addresses the particular challenge of distributing scarce key skills within the German Armed Forces. One of these key skills is the military police service, which is being integrated into the support area by the Military Police Command in Hannover with around 4,500 personnel. The military police are deployed across all domains, including at sea, in the air, on land, and in the cyber and information space, and they contribute to the increased operational readiness of the armed forces through their support services. The military police fulfill core tasks such as military order and traffic management, ensuring military mobility, investigations, custody, and support for homeland, airspace, and infrastructure protection, as well as security tasks such as protecting vital defense infrastructure. This also applies to twelve police specializations, such as personal and escort protection and the use of service dogs. The military police ensure a permanent response capability to immediately initiate appropriate measures in the event of unforeseen incidents, including military police reporting for extraordinary security situations. They are always ready for national risk and crisis management and international crisis management, serving as the interface between internal and external security. They continue, intensify, and practice their work within the framework of multinational military police partnerships. With their three military police regiments and the 25 military police service commands nationwide, as well as the permanently staffed military police deployment center at the Military Police Command of the German Armed Forces in Hannover, the military police provide a comprehensive 'service network' around the clock. Hannover is considered the 'military police capital' of Germany, with the Military Police Command, the School for Military Police and Staff Service of the German Armed Forces, and the local military police company. The command is the superior authority for all military police units, the school, and the guard battalion at the Federal Ministry of Defense. In this way, the military police contribute to supporting the entire German Armed Forces and the Federal Ministry of Defense.
