Plant Builder Gea Raises Growth Targets - GEA Group defies economic challenges with record €400M profit in 2023
GEA Group AG has reported a strong financial performance for 2023, despite a challenging economic climate. The Düsseldorf-based company saw its net profit rise by 7.5% to around €400 million, while revenue grew by 1.4% to €5.5 billion. CEO Stefan Klebert described the year as exceptionally successful for the business.
The company's growth was largely driven by rising demand for sustainable technologies. Over the past five years, GEA has expanded its global reach in food processing, beverages, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. Revenue climbed steadily from €4.0 billion in 2021 to an estimated €5.2 billion in 2025, with average annual organic growth of 5–7%.
GEA also secured its largest-ever contract in 2023—a major dairy farm project in Algeria. This deal contributed to a swelling order pipeline, reinforcing the company's position in key markets. Expansion in Asia and North America further boosted performance, even as supply chain issues posed challenges in 2022 and 2023.
The group employs roughly 19,500 people worldwide, with several thousand based in North Rhine-Westphalia. Its facilities in Oelde, Bönen, andürth specialise in different technologies: Oelde produces centrifuges for beer manufacturing, Bönen makes agricultural machinery, andürth focuses on freeze-drying systems. These innovations have helped GEA gain market share in sustainable solutions like refrigeration and separation.
With a stronger order book and continued growth in sustainable technologies, GEA has reinforced its market position. The company's financial results and global expansion highlight its resilience in a tough economic environment. Future performance will likely depend on maintaining momentum in key sectors and regions.
