Funky Foods Cupcake Class Swaps Frosting for Fondant Artistry
A monthly cupcake class at Sweet Designs by Jennie offers creative baking lessons for enthusiasts. Amelia and a fellow attendee recently joined the Funky Foods session, which took a fresh approach by using only fondant decorations. Unlike previous classes, this one skipped traditional frosting in favour of detailed fondant figures.
The class began with preparing sturdy bases for the fondant toppers. These needed time to dry and harden before decoration. Once ready, the participants piped a small amount of frosting onto each cupcake to help the fondant stick.
Some fondant figures proved simple to shape, while others demanded more skill. Both Amelia and her classmate struggled most with the cake section of their designs. Despite the challenge, Amelia added her own twist to a hot dog character, personalising the creation. The fondant toppers drew inspiration from Jelly Cats, giving the cupcakes a playful look. By the end of the session, the finished treats were charming and visually appealing. Jennie, the instructor, keeps the classes dynamic by introducing new cupcake designs every month. This ensures regular attendees like Amelia always have fresh techniques to explore.
The Funky Foods class marked a first for Sweet Designs by Jennie, focusing entirely on fondant work. Participants left with decorated cupcakes that were both creative and polished. The experience also highlighted the mix of simplicity and complexity in fondant crafting.
