French Brothers Unveil Geothermal Baths and a Classic Steak House Near Joshua Tree
Matt and Mike French, known for shaping the modern look of the desert near Joshua Tree National Park, have announced two new projects. Their company, Life & Times, is expanding with a geothermal bath house and a classic steak house. Both ventures will further cement their influence in the region’s hospitality and design scene.
The brothers recently hosted the kickoff event for the High Desert Art Fair at Matt French’s home in Pioneertown. The gathering brought together local artists, musicians, and visitors from Los Angeles. Shepard Fairey, the renowned street artist, even DJed at their Red Dog Saloon, another of their restored properties.
The event featured dinner prepared by the owners of Old Town Public Market, an upcoming organic deli and wine bar in Yucca Valley. This project, like many of the French brothers’ ventures, blends historic charm with contemporary style. Their latest undertakings include the Lord Fletcher Inn, a 1960s-era steak house in Rancho Mirage, set to open in late 2026. Meanwhile, Miracle Hill, a geothermal bath house in Desert Hot Springs, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. Both locations will join their portfolio, which already includes the Pioneertown Motel and the Red Dog Saloon. Eric Cheong, a designer and the third partner in Life & Times, plays a key role in these developments. Together, the trio continues to redefine desert hospitality with a mix of preservation and innovation.
The French brothers’ new projects will add to their growing list of restored and reimagined desert landmarks. With Lord Fletcher Inn and Miracle Hill, they aim to attract more visitors while maintaining the area’s unique character. Both openings are expected to draw attention from travellers and locals alike.
