Floral Designers Redefine Romance With Unconventional Valentine's Roses

A group of floral designers recently took on an unusual challenge for Valentine's Day. Alexandra Farms sent them a selection of garden roses with one clear task: break away from tradition. The result was a collection of bold, unexpected arrangements that redefined classic romance.

The project began when Alexandra Farms delivered a curated box of garden roses to each designer. Inside were 14 varieties, including deep reds like Rose Constance, sandy neutrals such as Sahara Sensation, and soft tones like Lavender Bouquet and Princess Midori Spr. The palette also featured peach, green, pink, and golden hues—far from the typical Valentine's roses.

Each designer approached the task differently. Some planned their structures carefully, while others worked freely by hand. Rose Effie and Tess, usually seen in traditional roles, were repurposed in surprising ways. One designer placed Spray Rose Loli as a deliberate accent, shifting the entire mood of an arrangement. Another kept Rose Princess Holly's Hope low and tucked in, letting taller blooms dominate the display.

The unconventional colours pushed the designers to experiment. Despite their varied methods, they all created pieces that still symbolised enduring love—just in fresh, modern forms.

The challenge showed how garden roses can transform Valentine's Day designs beyond the usual clichés. By using unexpected colours and techniques, the designers proved that romance doesn't have to follow tradition. No further details have been shared about Alexandra Farms' plans for future initiatives in floristry.
