Five Baden-Württemberg Cities Win 2025 Awards for Groundbreaking Cycling Projects

Five cities in Baden-Württemberg have been recognised for their outstanding cycling projects in the 2025 state awards. A total of 40 submissions competed for the honours, which celebrate innovative infrastructure improvements. Transport Minister Winfried Hermann praised the winners for boosting urban cycling networks across the region.

The City of Eislingen/Fils took the top prize for its new cycle street leading to the Ösch. The route was designed to provide a safer, more direct connection for cyclists in the area.

Ludwigsburg won for its planned roundabout at the Stern intersection, featuring a dedicated cycle ring. The design aims to improve traffic flow while prioritising bicycle safety.

Heidelberg secured an award for two key projects: the Gneisenaubridge and the cycle route linking Bahnstadt with Neuenheimer Feld. Both developments were noted for enhancing connectivity between residential and academic areas.

A special prize went to Achern for its redesigned train station forecourt. The upgrade included better bike parking, smoother access, and improved pedestrian-cyclist separation.

Kronau received a jury special prize for its Fahrrad-Drehkreuz project. The initiative focuses on creating a central cycling hub to encourage more residents to switch from cars to bikes.

The awards align with Baden-Württemberg's RadSTRATEGIE, which has already supported eight long-distance routes reaching 4-star quality. The strategy aims to position the state as Germany's leading destination for cycle tourism.

Minister Hermann emphasised how these projects set new standards for cycling infrastructure in the region. The winning designs will serve as models for future developments, helping to expand safe and efficient cycling networks. No evidence currently shows the strategy influencing other German states, but its impact within Baden-Württemberg continues to grow.
