Disney's Lost Empress Lilly Riverboat Lives On in New Cookbook
A piece of Walt Disney World history is getting fresh attention. The Empress Lilly Riverboat, once a floating dining landmark, closed in 1995 but remains part of Disney Springs today. Now, its legacy will feature in a new cookbook celebrating the resort’s past and future. The Empress Lilly first opened on May 1, 1977, as a tribute to Walt Disney’s wife, Lillian. Named in her honour, the riverboat hosted three restaurants and a jazz lounge. Its crown jewel was the Empress Room, known as the most elegant dining spot in Walt Disney World at the time.
The vessel operated for nearly two decades before shutting its doors on April 22, 1995. Today, the structure houses Paddlefish, a seafood restaurant at Disney Springs. To mark the resort’s ongoing 18-month celebration, Disney will release *Delicious Disney: Recipes & Stories from the Most Magical Place on Earth* on September 28, 2021. The cookbook will be sold exclusively through shopDisney.com and Walt Disney World locations.
The Empress Lilly’s story spans from its 1977 debut to its current role as Paddlefish. The new cookbook will preserve its place in Disney’s culinary history. Fans can explore its recipes and tales when the book launches later this month.
