Dim Posto is a well-loved Bengali egg curry known for its rich, creamy gravy. The dish gets its name from the Bengali word for eggs, Dim, and Posto, meaning poppy seeds. Its simple yet bold flavours make it a favourite in many households. The recipe starts with hard-boiled eggs, which are peeled and set aside. Meanwhile, poppy seeds are soaked in hot water for an hour to soften. These seeds form the base of the dish’s signature gravy.
A smooth paste is then made by blending the soaked poppy seeds with coconut and a little water. The eggs are lightly coated in turmeric powder before being added to the simmering gravy. The mixture is cooked for 8-10 minutes, allowing the flavours of mustard oil and green chilies to infuse fully. Dim Posto first appeared in a recipe swap group back in February 2019. More recently, it was selected for the 2026 Alphabet Challenge Group under the letter *E*, introducing the dish to a wider audience.
The dish stands out for its straightforward preparation and distinctive taste. With poppy seeds, mustard oil, and green chilies at its core, it delivers a creamy yet spiced experience. Its growing popularity reflects how traditional recipes continue to find new appreciation.
