Food Wardens Criticize Cream-Filled Donuts - Carnival donuts fail hygiene tests as bacteria risks exposed

A recent inspection during Carnival season has revealed hygiene issues in cream-filled donuts. Nearly two-thirds of the samples tested failed to meet safety standards. The findings highlight risks linked to improper storage and handling of these popular treats.

Out of the inspected donuts, nine were kept at temperatures too warm to block bacterial growth. Two more showed higher-than-allowed germ levels. Despite these concerns, no salmonella was found in any sample.

Cream fillings pose a greater risk than jam fillings because they contain less sugar and have a less acidic pH. This makes them more prone to bacterial contamination. Authorities advise eating cream-filled donuts quickly or refrigerating them if not consumed right away.

Meanwhile, Munich's traditional white sausage donuts remained available at several venues on Shrove Tuesday. Locations such as Hofbräuhaus, Augustiner am Dom, and Augustiner Stammhaus offered the speciality.

The inspections confirm that cream-filled donuts require careful handling to prevent spoilage. Storing them at safe temperatures and eating them promptly reduces health risks. No further details were released on enforcement actions against vendors in recent years.
