Brooklyn's Indie Bookshops Unite for a Week-Long Literary Adventure

Brooklyn's independent bookshops are preparing for a week-long celebration of local literature. From April 18 to 25, the Brooklyn Book Crawl will bring together 34 indie stores across the borough. The event forms part of the Global Book Crawl, linking readers and authors in cities worldwide. The festival kicks off with a scavenger hunt and neighbourhood stroll, leading up to Independent Bookstore Day on April 25. Participants can collect stamps in a special pass by visiting shops divided into five zones. Each completed zone rewards visitors with a 25% discount coupon for stores in that area, while finishing multiple zones unlocks extra perks.

Those who visit all 34 bookstores will qualify for a grand prize. The event wraps up with the Brooklyn Book Crawl Afterparty at the Center for Fiction on April 25, running from 5 to 8 PM. New York's small, family-run businesses have long shaped the city's identity. Many of these shops, including cozy cafés and bookstores, have operated for generations, adding to the borough's distinctive charm.

The Brooklyn Book Crawl highlights the role of indie bookshops in the city's cultural life. With discounts, prizes, and a closing party, the event encourages residents and visitors to explore local stores. The festival also connects Brooklyn to a global network of readers and writers through the Global Book Crawl.
