Brooklyn Botanic Garden Glows with Hanami Nights Under Cherry Blossoms

Brooklyn Botanic Garden will host Hanami Nights from April 21 to 24, 2026. The evening event invites visitors to explore its famous cherry blossom collection after sunset. Tickets for the popular celebration are expected to sell out quickly.

The event runs from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM each night in the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden. This historic space, the first of its kind in a U.S. public botanical garden, features a vermilion torii gate, a five-tiered waterfall, and a traditional Shinto shrine. Guests can enjoy live music, cultural dances, and Japanese-inspired snacks while strolling among the trees.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden spans 52 acres and holds one of the most diverse cherry collections in the U.S. Over 200 trees, representing nearly 30 varieties, include early-blooming 'Okame' and late-flowering double blossoms. A CherryWatch map tracks each tree's progress through four stages: pre-bloom, first bloom, peak, and post-peak. Hanami Nights is a ticketed, limited-capacity event. Alongside music and performances, visitors can explore bonsai displays and traditional crafts. The garden's serene setting provides a rare chance to experience cherry blossoms illuminated at night.

The 2026 Hanami Nights offer a unique way to enjoy Brooklyn's cherry blossoms under evening lights. With live entertainment, cultural activities, and a stunning garden backdrop, the event highlights the beauty of spring in the city. Tickets will be available in advance, with past editions selling out before the dates.
