Black Week 2024 Reveals Record Discounts—But Are They Real?
Black Week 2024 saw a surge in demand for electronics and gaming products, with some items hitting record discounts. Shoppers rushed to buy laptops, consoles, and leisure goods as prices dropped significantly. But not all deals were as good as they seemed—experts warn that checking price history is key to spotting real bargains. Geizhals.at analysed pricing trends from Black Friday 2024 to predict patterns for Black Week 2025, starting November 21. Their data revealed that laptops led the way with the highest demand and the deepest average discounts of 12.5%. Televisions followed closely at 12.2% off, while monitors dropped by 10.5%.
Gaming products experienced some of the steepest price cuts. PS4 games fell by 32%, Xbox games by 27.9%, and PS5 games by 25.6%. Searches for gaming consoles also spiked, with the Nintendo Switch seeing a 563% increase and the PlayStation 5 a 389% rise. Many shoppers took advantage of these reductions to buy consoles and video games.
Beyond electronics, leisure and family items also trended. Audiobooks saw a 316% jump in searches, robot vacuums climbed by 300%, and Lego sets rose by 273%. Other popular categories included smartphones (+156%), graphics cards (+144%), and monitors (+189%).
However, experts caution that not all Black Week offers are genuine bargains. A deal only counts as a true discount if its price is significantly lower than usual. Comparing current prices to historical data helps avoid misleading promotions. Black Week 2024 confirmed that laptops, gaming products, and leisure goods attract the most attention—and the biggest discounts. Shoppers looking for real savings in 2025 will need to research price histories before making purchases. The event remains a key period for tech and entertainment deals, but careful comparison is essential.
