Austria's Easter trends reveal a love for milk chocolate and early shopping

Austria has revealed its Easter shopping trends, with milk chocolate dominating orders and early preparations shaping the season. The country also shows a clear preference for larger chocolate bars, while chicken has seen a sharp rise as a festive dish this year.

Chocolate remains a key part of Austrian Easter celebrations, with milk chocolate making up 94.5 percent of all orders. Dark chocolate follows at just 1.4 percent, while white chocolate accounts for 4.6 percent. Customers tend to choose bigger bars, often 100 grams or more, and extra-large products over 200 grams are popular as gifts.

The first surge in Easter orders happens around 13 days before the holiday. The busiest period, however, comes roughly eight days before Easter Sunday. This early shopping habit sets Austria apart from many other countries. For Easter meals, chicken has grown significantly in popularity. Orders jumped from about 8.5 percent to 32 percent in 2025. Meanwhile, fresh vegetables remain a staple, making up 87.8 percent of all produce orders.

Austrians clearly favour milk chocolate and start their Easter shopping well in advance. The shift toward chicken as a main dish marks a noticeable change for 2025. With large chocolate bars and early orders, the country's traditions stand out in this year's data.
