Almaty Exhibition Honors 7,500 Years of Serbian Women's Legacy

A new exhibition celebrating the influence of Serbian women across history has opened in Almaty. Titled 'Serbian Women Through the Ages', the display launched on October 3 at the Almaty Museum. It marks another step in the growing cultural partnership between Kazakhstan and Serbia.

The exhibition spans 7,500 years, tracing the roles of women in Serbian society from prehistoric times to today. Over 70 rare artifacts and detailed biographies of 50 notable Serbian women are on show. Among them are figures like Milunka Savić, a decorated military hero, painter Nadežda Petrović, writer Isidora Sekulić, and physician Ružica Popović.

First Lady of Serbia Tamara Vučić attended the opening and praised Kazakhstan's hospitality. She noted strong parallels between the two nations, describing Serbian women as pillars of family, culture, and national identity. Jelena Medaković, director of the Belgrade City Museum, added that women have long shaped communities through resilience, creativity, and dignity.

The event builds on a cultural exchange started last year between Almaty and Belgrade museums. Kazakhstan's Minister of Culture and Information, Aida Balayeva, called it a milestone in friendship between the two countries. The exhibition runs until November 15, with plans for Kazakhstan to later showcase its own women's legacy in Serbia.

Organisers stressed that the display carries a broader message: the story of women transcends borders. Beyond artifacts and timelines, it highlights shared values and mutual respect between nations.

The exhibition remains open until mid-November, offering visitors a chance to explore Serbia's female heritage. It also sets the stage for future cultural exchanges, including Kazakhstan's planned showcase in Serbia. Both countries have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties through shared history and respect for women's contributions.
