ADS-TEC Energy powers ahead with €230M battery storage and EV charging expansion
ADS-TEC Energy has made strides in energy storage and EV charging, with new projects and financial gains. The company recently secured a major deal in southern Germany and expanded its fast-charging technology into grid balancing markets. Its latest financial report also shows a strong first half of 2025, backed by fresh funding and rising demand.
The firm plans to build a 1GW/2GWh stationary battery energy storage system (BESS) in southern Germany. If completed, the project could generate over €230 million annually. This comes as ADS-TEC continues to grow its presence in energy infrastructure.
Meanwhile, its ChargePost EV fast charger has been approved to join Salzburg AG's virtual power plant (VPP) pool. The system will provide both positive and negative reserves to Austria's balancing market. Predictive models will manage charging and grid feed-in to optimise ancillary services.
The company has also won new orders for its chargers in Germany, Belgium, and Austria. Its US division is expanding as well. Revenue for the first half of 2025 reached €14.6 million, with improved gross profits compared to 2024.
In May 2025, ADS-TEC raised US$50 million in financing, ending the period with €37.9 million in cash. The ChargePost system offers three revenue streams for utility partners: EV charging fees, grid services, and advertising on digital screens.
Since Austria approved its technology for ancillary services in 2023, ADS-TEC's solutions have gained traction. Germany now uses them for bidirectional charging, while the Netherlands runs pilot projects with grid operators. Regulatory recognition in these countries has helped, with early expansions into France and the UK by 2025. The company notes that similar dual-use setups can be replicated wherever market access and prequalification exist.
The approval of ChargePost for grid balancing marks a key step in integrating EV chargers with energy markets. ADS-TEC's financial growth and project pipeline suggest further expansion in Europe and beyond. The company's technology is now positioned for wider adoption in regions with supportive regulations.
