A charming new bistro, Greisslerei beim Taubenkobel, opened its doors on June 10, 2001. The venue, nestled in a small village, was launched by Barbara Eselböck, a trained sommelier, and her husband Alain Weissgerber, an experienced chef. Locals gathered to celebrate, including the priest, mayor, and many villagers, who enjoyed a warm welcome and a heartfelt speech by the priest. The idea for the Greisslerei began with Walter Eselböck, Barbara’s father, who wanted a place where villagers could enjoy a good cup of coffee and socialise. Originally a simple grocery store, it gradually transformed into a cosy tavern and bistro. Walter and his wife Eveline had already made a name for themselves in 1984 when they opened Taubenkobel, a restaurant that later became one of Austria’s finest.
Today, the *Greisslerei* offers more than just coffee. Guests can choose from traditional Austrian dishes like Wiener schnitzel, beef tartare, and sauerkraut soup. The bistro kitchen also serves refined options such as fried calamari and coq au vin. Beyond food, the shop sells gourmet delicacies, fine wines, stylish accessories, and even clothing. The space itself is inviting, with around 20 seats in the garden and another 30 indoors, totalling about 50 places. The atmosphere reflects its origins—a gathering spot for the community, now enriched with high-quality food and drink.
The Greisslerei beim Taubenkobel now stands as a blend of village tradition and culinary excellence. Under Barbara Eselböck and Alain Weissgerber’s leadership, it continues to serve both locals and visitors with a mix of homely charm and gourmet offerings. The opening marked a new chapter for a place that began as a simple grocery but has grown into a beloved bistro and tavern.
